A Day in the Life of a Patient at Faircape Health

At Faircape Health, rehabilitation is personalised, professional and compassionate, with a strong focus on dignity, and independence. Each day is thoughtfully structured around recovery, comfort and dignity.

Our doctors and care teams are on-site throughout the day, and are supported by continuous nursing care. They form part of our Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), who meet regularly to discuss each patient’s progress and adjust care plans collaboratively.

The Morning

Patients can choose to either stay in a shared or private room, both of which have been designed to promote rest and healing. Depending on each patient’s individual care plan, a friendly Enrolled Nursing Assistant (ENA), together with our team of carers, may start the morning with a gentle check-in, assessing well-being and addressing any immediate needs.

For patients who require it, assistance with daily living activities like washing, dressing or mobility support is provided respectfully and discreetly. Our care team is on hand to provide support and assistance as and when required, but independence is always encouraged.

Breakfast is delivered directly to the patients room and tailored to their dietary requirements and personal preferences. Morning medication is administered by our qualified nursing staff, and supplied directly from Faircape Health’s on-site pharmacy.

Mid-Morning

This part of the day is often dedicated to rehabilitation. Patients are escorted to the appropriate gym or therapy space based on their recovery goals. Some patients may do rehabilitation in their room, depending on functional ability and medical needs.

Each one-on-one therapy session, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy amongst others, focuses on rebuilding strength, improving mobility and supporting long-term recovery. After therapy, patients can enjoy a well-earned rest period.

This quieter time creates time to relax, read, watch TV, speak to family or welcome visitors. A call-button is always within reach, and our carer team is always available to assist at any time.

Lunch and Early Afternoon

Lunch can be served in the patient’s room or enjoyed in our courtyard or restaurant.

Prescribed medication is administered as needed, and in line with guidance from our in-house doctors, followed by a quiet rest period to restore energy. Nurses and carers continue with informal check-ins, ensuring comfort, hydration and overall well-being.

Some patients may have additional therapy sessions in the afternoon, depending on their care plan. Medication is again delivered to the room, and visiting hours provide meaningful time with family and loved ones.

During the day, patients are encouraged to walk around the beautifully maintained garden and pathways. Our friendly staff are always on hand to help in any way, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere. Afternoon tea or a light snack is also served.

Evening

As evening approaches, our nursing staff check-in to prepare patients for the night. Personal care assistance is provided where necessary, and dinner is served in the room.

Evening medication is administered, followed by time to relax. TVs and telephones are included in every room for added comfort and familiarity.

Our night team is on hand to administer medication or provide assistance as and when needed during the night . Call buttons are available for immediate support, and camera monitoring offers additional peace of mind, ensuring a secure and restful environment.

Discharge Planning

Discharge planning begins early and is coordinated by a dedicated Discharge Planning team. Patients and families are kept informed about progress and expected timelines, while final assessments and reports are prepared by  our IDT.

On the day of discharge, final check-ins by treating professionals ensure comfort and readiness. Personal belongings are packed, and discharge paperwork is prepared and explained clearly and simply. Family and friends also receive necessary help and support where appropriate.

Medication is supplied or arranged through Faircape Health’s pharmacy, and follow-up appointments, home-based care, outpatient rehabilitation and assistive devices are coordinated to ensure continuity of care. A full discharge report will be provided a few days later.
