In 2024, Mr Shukri Conrad experienced challenges with gradually worsening osteoarthritis, which affected his daily activities. As the South African Cricket Coach, his role requires long hours on his feet, travel for tournaments, and oversight of training camps, making functional mobility essential.
In April, Mr Conrad underwent joint surgery performed by Dr Clive White at Kingsbury Hospital in Claremont, Cape Town. Following surgery, he was admitted to Faircape Health Tokai Estate for sub-acute rehabilitation, where he participated in a structured programme led by an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.
During his stay, he received physiotherapy twice daily, focusing on improving range of motion. Early rehabilitation goals included walking independently with crutches indoors and outdoors, and navigating stairs safely with assistance.
“The focus was on rebuilding strength and confidence in my legs, step by step,” Mr Conrad recalls.
Following discharge, Mr Conrad continued outpatient physiotherapy for 12 weeks, gradually regaining strength, endurance, and confidence. He worked on walking longer distances, stair navigation, and functional mobility required for his professional duties.
Today, Mr Conrad has returned to work and is able to perform the physical requirements of his role, including travel for tournaments and leading training sessions. At Faircape Health, we are privileged to support patients like Mr Conrad as they work toward regaining mobility, confidence, and independence.
