At Faircape Health, we understand that informed patients and families experience greater confidence in their care journey. Our Frequently Asked Questions provide clarity on our services, admission process, and treatment approach — ensuring you have the information you need to make well-guided decisions about your health or that of a loved one.
Do you accept all medical aids?
We work with most medical aids; however, coverage depends on your individual plan and available benefits.
- Genesis:Covers only the Sub-Acute Unit and excludes additional doctors, allied services, and consumables.
- Hips & Knees:Typically authorised for 5–7 days.
- Spinal Surgery:Single-level procedures are usually not covered unless supported by a strong medical motivation.
- Momentum:Has a rand-value maximum, depending on the plan.
- BonCap:Has a rand-value maximum (plan dependent).
- Fedhealth:FlexiFed plans do not cover elective surgeries.
- Health Insurances:Patients generally pay upfront and claim back, except for certain policies such as Cigna and AIMS, which may settle directly.
Please note that we do not accept Sizwe Hosmed, Cape Medical Plan, PESMAS, or Opmed.
How do I arrange admission for myself or a loved one?
Your referring doctor can send us a referral letter. We will then apply for authorisation from your medical aid. Once authorisation is approved, our assessment nurse will contact you in the hospital or communicate directly with your referring doctor to arrange the transfer.
What is the waiting period for admissions?
The waiting period varies as it depends on your medical aid and the type of authorisation required. For some medical aids, we can obtain same-day approval, while others may take 3–5 working days. We do, however, escalate and follow up promptly to expedite the process where possible.
Do you offer outpatient options or must I book into a room?
Yes, we offer outpatient services through our Allied Health team — including Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Speech Therapy, and Psychology.
Do you cater to a vegan or vegetarian diet?
Yes, we are able to accommodate dietary preferences such as vegan or vegetarian diets.
Do I need to pay extra for any food and drinks outside of the three meals per day, or are they included?
Our food services include three nutritious meals per day, prepared by a qualified chef. Tea and coffee are served at selected times throughout the day, with ad hoc tea or coffee requests available outside of meals times too. Should patients wish to purchase additional snacks or beverages, our on-site restaurant offers a variety of options for patients and visitors.
What are your visiting hours?
Visiting hours are 11:00–19:00 daily.
Please note that therapy sessions continue during these hours, and we kindly request that families wait in the coffee shop if therapy is in progress to ensure sessions are not interrupted.
What is the minimum time frame to qualify for long-term care?
This is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on medical and functional needs.
Is there parking available for long-term care patients and their families?
Yes, parking is available.
Do I need to receive therapy when admitted?
Yes. All patients admitted to the facility are required to see the doctor daily and participate in therapy with at least one Allied discipline, such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Dietetics, or Psychology.
