She has diplomas with CMSA in emergency medicine, anaesthetics and paediatrics. She is currently doing her fellowship in rehabilitation medicine through the International Rehabilitation Forum. She is the lead doctor at Faircape Tokai Subacute and Rehabilitation Facility.
Dr Nic van der Westhuizen is a family physician, with a special interest in environmental health. His areas of special interest and expertise include primary care and preventative medicine. He believes in delivering high quality, evidence based care and creating an environment where patients and colleagues can prosper
Dr. Aneeka Domingo is a general practitioner with special interests in the fields of neurology, mental health and palliative care. She has work experience and training in clinical medicine, research, medico-legal affairs and medical ethics. With an ongoing commitment to excellence, Aneeka holds up-to-date certifications in Advanced Life Support resuscitation (RCSA) and is an associate member of Palprac SA (The Association of Palliative Care Practitioners of South Africa). Driven by a belief in holistic medical care, Aneeka is dedicated to providing her patients with compassionate, individualized care. Her treatment approach aims at empowering her patients through health education and helping to facilitate a return to the best possible quality of life.
Dr. Marlouise Steenkamp is a General Practitioner. She avidly advocates for preventative medicine and alongside her experience in primary care and General Practice, Marlouise’s interest includes advancing her clinical expertise by seeking out opportunities to improve her knowledge and skills. All of her patients receive high-quality, all-encompassing care, and she delights in their progress and successes through rehabilitation. She holds a certificate in basic and acute cardiac life support.
Dr. Johann Maartens is passionate about quality medical care, academics, and research. A general practitioner with a strong research background, his medical experience includes rural and emergency medicine as well as primary care. His areas of interest include emergency, internal, and systems based medicine. Dr. Maartens holds a Master’s degree in Medical physiology and a diploma in emergency medicine.
Dr. Leila Amien is passionate about medicine and providing her patients with the best practice of treatment and care. A General Practitioner, Dr. Amien has a special interest in medicine’s surgical field, specifically, restorative treatment following surgery. She is constantly seeking to improve her skills and knowledge in order to provide patients with up-to-date, high-quality medical care and believes that working as part of an interdisciplinary team enhances the team’s knowledge and skills and assists in providing a high level of care to all patients.
Marchelle is passionate about holistic, structured, and individualised care for those struggling with breathlessness or a chronic pulmonary disease. Her extensive experience treating lung transplant patients at Groote Schuur Hospital, and ventilated patients at the UCT Private Academic Hospital’s ICU, revealed how integrative treatment leads to lasting health. Marchelle has completed multiple courses in cardiopulmonary health care and rehabilitation. She is a Director of Tokai Physiotherapy and the lead physiotherapist of the pulmonary rehabilitation department.
Megan’s key area of interest is in geriatrics. She actively encourages active ageing and assists her patients to age with grace and dignity. Before transitioning to a sub-acute setting, she treated patients in the private sector. She works exclusively with those who have experienced neurological events. Megan is a Director of Tokai Physiotherapy and the lead Physiotherapist of the neurological rehabilitation programme.
Jenna takes a holistic approach to assessment and treatment. She understands that a tailored approach to rehabilitation is important to achieve the desired outcomes. She enjoys rehabilitating individuals with joint replacements, fractures and soft tissue injuries. Jenna previously worked in an orthopaedic outpatients setting before transitioning to subacute rehabilitation. She holds a certificate Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) and is the lead physiotherapist of orthopaedic rehabilitation.
Andrew has a passion for helping patients achieve life function through rehabilitation. After completing his physiotherapy degree at the University of Cape Town’s Medical School, he completed his community service in acute and outpatient therapy at a Kwa-Zulu Natal secondary hospital. Andrews previous experience includes treating ICU patients in the private sector. He is the lead physiotherapist of the pre-rehabilitation and post-surgical rehabilitation programmes
Sara has a keen interest in working with patients to improve their quality of life through empowerment. Her focus is on cardiac rehabilitation and chronic pain and the ways in which both conditions are treated. She holds a Master’s Degree in chronic pain management from the University of Cape Town and a certificate in International Aquatic Techniques. Sara is the lead physiotherapist of the cardiac rehabilitation programme.
Trish has a passion for helping people and enjoys seeing her patients reach their goals. She completed her community service, offering outpatient therapy, in Johannesburg. After returning to Cape Town, she began treating patients in the private sector in a sub-acute setting. Trish holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Cape Town.
Gadeeja creates a positive impact on her patients by facilitating healing through guidance and support. She has a passion for helping individuals in the sub-acute setting and helping out-based patients through their rehabilitation. Gadeeja completed her community service in the Northern Cape and returned to Cape Town, fulfilling a role as a locum in the private sector. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of the Western Cape and is the lead physiotherapist of the oncology rehabilitation programme.
Sasha believes that every individual has the ability to participate in occupations, no matter what the disease or injury. Graduating from the University of the Free State in 2014 with a Bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy, she has garnered a wealth of experience across both public and private sectors in South Africa. Beginning her journey in the Eastern Cape, Sasha spent six years in the public sector. Sasha relocated to Cape Town in 2020, where she transitioned into the private sector, eventually founding her own private practice in May 2022.She aims to uncover individuals’ innate potential to participate in occupations that are meaningful to them.
Simone graduated with a BScOT from the University of the Western Cape in 2017. She completed her community service in the rural area of Mpumalanga at Matibidi Hospital. Here, she learned how to work within a community setting and provided care not only based at the hospital but in the community and the home. Her experience within Occupational Therapy was extended when she worked in a vocational rehabilitation practice in Johannesburg. Here the focus was on improving optimal functioning to engage in occupations at the workplace, this engagement was believed to not only be essential but provided a sense of purpose and belonging. Simone has a keen interest in vulnerable populations and understands that occupational participation is affected by the opportunities that are provided to the person. We have the capacity to create the opportunity for all our patients to engage in the occupations/activities they find purposeful and meaningful.
Anne graduated with a BSc Occupational Therapy in 2019 from the University of the Witwatersrand. She completed her Community service year at a semi-rural hospital, Thelle Mogoerane in Gauteng. She moved to Cape Town in the beginning of 2021. Anne enjoys building relationships with her patients, and is passionate about empowering others to reach their goals and experience increased independence and quality of life.
Saajidah Davids graduated with a BSc. Occupational Therapy in 2012 from the University of the Western Cape. She is passionate about the philosophy of Occupational Therapy in terms of getting individuals to their fullest potential functionally. Her motto as a therapist is: “If it is important to you, it is important to me”. She is trained in basic wheelchair seating, to ensure appropriate wheelchair selection. She is also trained in hand therapy, which covers a host of upper limb conditions. Saajidah has a keen interest in adult physical rehabilitation, and enjoys collaborating with her patients and their loved ones to reach their desired goals.
Rosé completed her Occupational Therapy community service year in Pofadder, rural Northern Cape in 2022 after receiving her Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Occupational Therapy at The University of Cape Town in 2021. Rosé has received clinical training and experience in all five practice domains of Occupational Therapy throughout her student and professional career. She has worked with the most diverse population groups of various ages, cultures and social status. She believes that healthcare is not merely a basic right to life but is also rooted in our right to dignity and respect. Rosé’s devotion to lifelong learning, service excellence and humanity has led her to produce successful and prestigious outcomes in her clinical experiences. “Being a great healthcare practitioner is about knowing how to manage human needs in dire circumstances, whilst remaining sensitive to external factors”, is what she lives by both personally and professionally.
Tamlyn is a passionate speech therapist who believes in advocating for her patients and their return to daily occupation. With an interest in neurorehabilitation, she completed her community service year at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg, and later, did three rotations in hyperacute stroke units in England. Her passion is working with the adult population through helping them relearn how to talk, communicate and swallow following a stroke or a traumatic brain injury.
Toni Smyth is the lead dietitian at Faircape Health. She has over 15 years experience and has worked in various fields of nutrition, both locally and abroad. Toni has worked at the facility since its opening and has a great understanding of the role that good nutrition plays in patient rehabilitation. She believes in implementing an achievable and sustainable nutritional plan that is patient specific.
Juanee is passionate about advocating for the rights of vulnerable groups. In her work, she strives to serve individuals and communities by identifying risk factors. Her passion is safeguarding the elderly while empowering them to utilise their strengths and remain independent. Juanee has developed programmes and policies that protect those under her care and improve overall well-being and life satisfaction. She is trained in equine-assisted psychotherapy and trauma debriefing.
She is passionate about working with elderly patients and their families, helping them manage the psychological, social, and emotional challenges associated with becoming older and adjusting to changes in health status. A specialist family practitioner, Liesl has worked with families for more than twelve years.
Angelique graduated in 2012 with her Masters degree in Social Work. She has since worked in various fields of social work, including statutory, forensic and medical social work. Angelique is passionate about making a difference in the lives of the vulnerable, and providing support to families in times of change and uncertainty. Establishing meaningful connections with clients is at the heart of her work. Angelique believes in the individuality of clients, that there is no one perfect way of resolving challenges, and that one never stops learning. People are the experts of their own lives, we just help them to see it.
Daryn is passionate about helping individuals, families, groups, and communities meet their basic needs and enhance their well-being. At Faircape Health, she assists patients and their families in navigating the changes they may experience following disease or injury upon discharge. Tasriq Malherbe is a qualified basic pharmacist assistant. He completed his studies at S Buys Academy in 2018 and has over 10 years of experience in hospital requirements, procedure and the procurement of medications. Tasriq’s responsibilities in the pharmacy includes pharmaceutical surgical stock management at Faircape Health.
Annika is a responsible pharmacist at Tokai Health Pharmacy. She obtained her degree at Nelson Mandela University in 2014. She is a trained haematology and oncology pharmacist and is passionate about hospital pharmacy. Elizabeth graduated from the University of the Western Cape in 2020 and completed her community service in rural Northern Cape, at Pofadder CHC in 2021.
